High time
Twenty-two weeks. Far enough along that we should start having a little fun, wouldn’tcha say?
Check out two new additions to the blog, both found in the right-hand column. The first is a countdown to 30 weeks, the less-than-scientifically-determined point in the pregnancy where we’ll feel a bit more comfortable.
The second new feature is our invitation to you to brainstorm baby names with us. We waited for bit before allowing ourselves to even start considering names. But at some point we’ve gotta, and this seems like as good a time as any to begin. We’ve already tossed around an idea or two, but have opted not to add our own thoughts yet so as not to limit people’s creativity. So please feel free to join in the voting. It’s anonymous, so we won’t be able to tell who you were. For example, we have no idea (some educated guesses…) who the great wit was who cast the first vote for Juan Valdez, but as promised we considered it seriously for several seconds before bursting out laughing! Strong work, mysterious funny person.
If you think up a good one and would understandably like some credit, or if you’re the kind of person who thinks you can keep a secret but later feels driven to blurt it out, well there’s always the option to spill the beans in a comment or an entry in the Guestbook.
We’re open to suggestions serious and silly. Coming up with a good boy’s name is hard! Case in point: before two friends helped us out by suggesting Javid, we were semi-seriously considering Oscar. I still have a small soft spot in my heart for a name that could be shortened to Oz, but that’s been officially nixed by the Great Party Pooper of Name Selection. As well as, to be fair, by the great majority of those consulted. What’s wrong with you people? Why can’t boys have fun names, too?
Anyway, the poll will stay in the sidebar, but I’m also going to include it in this post. If you’d like to see what votes have already been cast before adding yours, simply click on “View Results” below the Vote button first.
The poll promises points for creativity and humor. Extra credit as well for superfluous silent letters, obscure allusions to literary or pop culture, mythical beings, or oblique cultural references.
There’s a built-in can’t-vote-twice feature to the poll. The more technically inclined among you should be able to defeat it pretty easily, but unless you want to go to the effort you may want to think a bit before committing yourself.
Poll: Suggest a name for he who dwells in the belly
Have fun. That’s an order…

Important clarification - will the wee one be a “Lapp Yoder” or a “Yoder Lapp” or a “Lapoder” or a “Yodapp”? This is critical in considering alliteration possibilities.

Despite being tempted–as we were with Javid–by the two most obvious permutations (loadacrap or craploader) , we’ll probably do the mature parental thing again and go with “Lapp Yoder.” That way he can establish for himself whether or not he’ll be full of “it.”

I already left my name idea (Khalil), but I just thought of some good Texan names, since I know y’all aspire to be Texans!
Here are some popular ones around here, along with Diego, Carlos and Rodrigo of course:
Seguin
Austin
Jackson
Campy (as in ”a kid who likes camping?\\”–?no se?)
Sending you hugs from Brownsville…
Nick, Lisa, Caelan Justice, Malcolm Paz and Isabella Truth Mitchell Bennett
(now that’s a mouthful!)
