My wife and I are friends of Javid's paternal grandparents, Helen and Sam Lapp. We haven't actually seen them for almost ten years, but just got an email from them including this link.
Thanks for your posts. Though we don't know you, we are sorry for your loss.
Though we have never physically met, we feel some connection to you, Ana Lisa, through a story. It seems you introduced yourself to our friend Girgis Naiem, by saying your name, "Ana Lisa." Since, in Arabic, "Ana" means, "I," "me," or "I am," Girgis (who is very fluent in English), thinking you were telling him in Arabic that your name was Lisa, extended his hand and replied (in Arabic), "Ana Girgis" meaning "I'm Girgis." Whether this story is true, or is merely part of the apocryphal tradition related to Sam & Helen's year in Egypt, I cannot say, but I trust you either remember it, or have heard about it, not the latter ad nauseum, I hope.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to check how you are. We are keeping your beans hostage... Need to bring them over before they expire, good grief!

Tony,
How can one leave comments when there are no words left to be said? Thanks for your beautiful ruminations on life, walks, the Wee One, your gorgeous wife. And belated happy 9th anniversary.

Hi Tony,
I've had the notice of your son's death on my desk for a couple of months now, with intentions of looking up this website. I wanted to say hello and to let you and Ana Lisa know just how sorry I am. Your writing is so beautiful Tony. I just now went through Javid's life in your words and pictures and I found myself getting attached to the wee one. I can't imagine losing a child. It must be one of the world's greatest hurts.
I married someone I met while working at Indiana University. We're here now in Baltimore - he's teaching at Loyola College (computer science) and I am doing research at U of MD - ethnography in long term care settings. It's been a great job - part-time and yet meaningful. We had two boys - 1 and 3 years old.
Your work sounds intriguing. I've never been to Philadelphia - and now we live so close. Maybe we could look you all up for a cup of coffee and recommendations of places to explore in Philly.
Thanks for sharing Javid's story.
